Pingtung County Government conducted the mother-language carnival activity, to promote mother language education for children for new immigrants.  

Country mayor Pan Meng-An says that Pingtung has a diverse ethnic group. Therefore, the Pingtung country values the mother-tongue education (foreign languages) of children of new immigrants. The county also provides textbooks and picture books designed for children of new immigrants. 

And lately, Pingtung County also held a mother-language carnival activity. The activity provides a chance for children of new immigrants to speak their mother language. The activity includes mother language challenges, performances and picture book workshops, etc. New immigrants can participate in the activity and have fun while speaking their mother language.

The Pingtung mother-language carnival contains many activities in multi-languages. The organizers prepared 11 challenges for the activity. And there are also other performances in foreign languages. There are hand puppet shows, dancing and singing performances, people telling old myths and stories, and cross talk performances. 

As for the picture book workshop, children will be able to compose stories in their mother language. The children can practice speak and think in another language. 

Pan Meng-An mentions, new immigrants have their language in Taiwan. Therefore, the government is promoting mother languages in education for children of new immigrants. The government has provided many mother-language textbooks and courses, so children of new immigrants can study in a multicultural environment.
