As Chinese New Year is around the corner, National Immigration Agency (Tainan City First Service Center) launched a “mobile service unit” together with the Bureau of Labor Affairs, Tainan City Government.
The National Immigration Agency (NIA) personnel traveled to Migrant workers' dormitories, factories, and shops frequently visited by Southeast Asian immigrants to promote “Prevention of African Swine Fever”. NIA urges migrant workers and immigrants not to import meat illegally from abroad, and not to purchase meat products from the questionable place of origin.

Taking into consideration the COVID-19 situation in Taiwan, only representatives of each dormitory building were invited to be trained as native language ambassadors. The representatives would then share the importance of “Prevention of African Swine Fever” to their fellow friends, reminding them not to violate laws by buying pork products of unknown origin such as sausages, ham, meat floss, and pastry products from friends or online societies, etc. as Chinese New Year approaches.
If people receive packages containing pork products from a questionable place of origin, they can directly contact the “Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, COA, Executive Yuan” and get the parcel destroyed. Otherwise, the recipient will be liable to a fine of up to NT$150,000. In addition, do not throw the meat products into the food waste bins to reduce the risk of viral disease transmission.

Besides visiting store by store to promote “Prevention of African Swine Fever”, NIA personnel also promoted the “Carefree Covid-19 Vaccination Program” that encourages foreign nationals, including undocumented migrant workers and overstayers to receive free vaccination. The program adopts four principles, “won’t be reported”, “won’t be seized”, “won’t be charged for any fee”, “won’t be banned” and it will last until January 31, 2022.
