Chen Mei Mei from Medan, Indonesia got married in Taiwan 20 years ago. She created a YouTube Channel named “Emak Medan di Taiwan” to share how to make Taiwanese and Indonesian dishes at home. As a travel lover, she also recorded her memories on videos. In this episode of the “New Immigrants in Taiwan” column, she followed her family to "Zhilan Park Observation Deck" in Sanzhi District, New Taipei to enjoy sea views and try walking on the beautiful 57-meter blue corridor that stretches along the north coast.

“Let’s have an outing as the weather is good.” Chen Mei Mei was greeted by the teeming observation deck and beach. Before the sunset, Chen and her husband managed to take a few photos with the scenic view as the background.

Originally built in 1991, the "Zhilan Park Observation Deck" was once demolished as it was rated as a "dangerous building" due to coastal erosion. After ten years of reconstruction, a new platform was established and has become a popular tourist attraction. The place is always crowded on holidays as visitors would feel like walking on the ocean once they entered the promenade.

Through the lens of Chen’s camera, the scenery looks impressive and beautiful. The blue sea water surges with rolling waves. Gazing admiringly at the ocean from far away, the sky and the sea are connected on the horizon.

Later, the whole family then visited a Vietnamese restaurant named “Yue Nan Xiao Zhan” which is located on Sanzhi Danjin Highway in New Taipei City. As soon as Chen walked into the restaurant, she was surprised by the mock mango tree, mock palm-leaf roof and mock bamboo shelves. “The decors here are really Vietnamese.”

Chen ordered Vietnamese Crepe, which is a specialty of Vietnam. The golden crispy crust was used to wrap sprouts, pork, shrimp, and other fillings. Chen started by cutting the crust first, and then took crepe, lettuce, and basils to make the dish. After drizzling fish sauce over the dish, she bit into the food and showed a thumbs up.

The family also ordered curry chicken rice, cold chicken rice noodles, shrimp paste cabbage, and sesame chicken. “Most Vietnamese dishes are light and refreshing, it’s no wonder that most Vietnamese girls are so slim.”
