The Ministry of the Interior (MOI, 內政部) recently announced the "Simple Life Table for 2020" (2020年簡易生命表). The average life expectancy of Taiwanese is 81.3 years, with 78.1 years old for men and 84.7 years old for women, both hit historical highs, while among the 6 major cities of Taiwan, Taipei City has the highest life expectancy of 84.1 years. The life expectancy decreases from north to south of Taiwan.

According to the MOI, in terms of municipalities, the average life expectancy of the Taiwan people in 2020 will be 84.1 years old in Taipei City, followed by New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Taichung City, Tainan City and Kaohsiung City. The average life expectancy of men and women is also the same with the highest in Taipei City, and it decreases from north to south. From the observation of the average life expectancy of various counties and cities, Hsinchu City has the highest life expectancy at 81.7 years old, and Taitung County is the lowest at 76.5 years old.
