Attention parents! New Taipei City students will receive the BNT vaccine and schools will hold home online classes for 2 days

The Mayor of New Taipei City, Hou You-Yi (侯友宜), announced at a press conference on epidemic prevention that nearly 170,000 people will be vaccinated with BNT on New Taipei City’s school campuses. They will be vaccinated in the schools from September 22 and the schools will hold online classes for two days. The students will study at home so their parents can monitor their condition, and if the child feels unwell, the student can continue to take vaccination leave, which will not be considered as absent.

The Education Department of New Taipei City (新北市教育局) stated that New Taipei has completed the vaccination register on September 15 and will start vaccination on September 22. It is expected that the first dose of BNT vaccination will be completed by September 30. After vaccination, the whole school will hold online classes for 2 days. If vaccination is on Thursday, then only online classes will be held on Thursday and physical classes will be held on the following Monday. If the student cannot be vaccinated on the scheduled day of vaccination, the school will send a supplementary vaccination form, and students can choose a day to go to the local medical institution for supplementary vaccination.

In addition, according to the information from the command center (CECC, 指揮中心), common reactions of adolescents after vaccination are pain, redness and swelling at the vaccinated body part, which usually disappears within a few days. Other possible reactions include fatigue, headache, muscle aches, elevated body temperature, chills, joint pains, and nausea which are usually mild, and will disappear within a few days. In addition, according to the results of the third phase of the vaccine clinical trial of the Centers for Disease Control of the Ministry of Health and Welfare (CDC, 衛服部疾病管制署), 24.3% of 12 to 15-year-old adolescents have fever, and 14.2% of 16-year-old and older have fever. More than 50% of students may have headache symptoms.
