Turkish immigrant in Taiwan is living a fulfilling life as a ‘slashie’ to promote cultures of his hometown

Tolga Erdoğan (圖佳) from Turkey has been residing in Taiwan for about eight years. He created a YouTube Channel named “Best Of Taiwan - 圖佳” that presents diversity in content. Besides, he also invites guests of different nationalities to join the video shooting together and even collaborated with President Tsai Ing-wen.

Tolga Erdoğan shared with the editor of the【Taiwan Immigrants' Global News Network】about his story in Taiwan. As he wishes to promote Turkish culture in Taiwan, he created sidelines including a Turkish restaurant and courses on making Turkish mosaic lamps.

Turkish coffee is served in Tolga Erdoğan’s restaurant, and he even brought a special coffee machine and a professional black tea machine from Turkey to Taiwan. Besides, the ingredients such as coffee powder, and black tea leaves are also imported from Turkey. Usually, the coffee will be served with Turkish delight – a sweet from Turkey, and Taiwanese people are able to have the taste of authentic Turkish drinks and desserts.

In this episode of the “New Immigrants in Taiwan” column, Tolga Erdoğan visited numerous coffee estates and have an in-depth understanding of the differences between Taiwanese coffee and Turkish coffee.

He found out that there is one coffee estate that adopts environmentally friendly planting and natural farming without using herbicides or chemical fertilizers. The coffee beans that grow up under this condition produce coffee that tastes like brown sugar drinks. Besides, the coffee beans from another coffee estate produce coffee that has a taste of peach and violets.

During this journey, Tolga Erdoğan was able to learn the unique features of the different coffee estates, and how to plant, harvest, and bake coffee beans. This is a fulfilling and meaningful experience for him.
