New immigrant from Vietnam, Hong Man Zhi, speaks out for new immigrants in Taiwan!

In cooperation with IC Voice FM97.5 【New Students Registration-We are in Taiwan】, a series of exciting stories about new immigrants in Taiwan is launched. This episode features a new immigrant from Vietnam, Hong Man Zhi (洪滿枝).

After residing in Taiwan since 1998, she joined a Southeast Asian group “TransAsia Sisters Association, Taiwan(南洋台灣姊妹會)” to speak out for her fellow sisters from the same country and advocate immigration issues. This year, she also participated in the “New Immigrant Community Planning Project” and accompanied new immigrants through workshops and interviews.

Hong Man Zhi made the documentary "Sisters Selling Winter Melon! (姐妹賣冬瓜！)" in 2007, and this is Taiwan’s first documentary produced by new immigrants. The video presents the process of advocating so that more people can understand the hard works made to develop and implement policies related to immigration. The documentary is a historical one.

“In the process of advocating, I once felt scared had thoughts to give up,” Hong says. “However, I become brave now after keeping practicing every time.”

Hong mentioned that she would bring her children along while she is in the “TransAsia Sisters Association, Taiwan”

“As my children grow up, I wish to give them exposure to cultural diversity as well as broaden their horizons,” Hong says. “Not only can they enhance the parent-child relationship, but they can also understand their feelings.” She wants to be her children’s friends and teach them how to come back from failures.
