NIA Taitung County Service Center hosted the "New Year, New Cuisine" (新年添菜 異國天菜) event on January 14th and invited the new immigrants in Taitung and their families to celebrate the Spring Festival. The event featured specially prepared, the most authentic Southeast Asian cuisine for new immigrants to have authentic reunion meal. “Taiwan Immigrants’ Global News Network” was also promoted by the chance during the event, a reputable news website that covers the lives of new immigrants in five different languages, including Chinese, English, Indonesian, Vietnamese, and Thai.

Ms. Shih (施宋邁), a native of Northeastern Thailand who has lived in Taiwan for 26 years, prepares traditional Thai dishes including Momo Cha-cha, Thai papaya salad, chicken in Thai curry, cabbage with shrimp sauce, and Thai milk tea.

Ms. Luo (羅吉雅), a chef from Central Java, and Ms. Su (蘇美妮), a chef from East Java, are the two chefs in charge of the Indonesian menu. They have been in Taiwan for 16 years. They don't consume pork due to their religion. The two Indonesian new immigrants made unique preparations of Indonesian turmeric rice, siu mai noodles, satay beef skewers, and the most well-liked Indonesian layer cake.

During the event, colleagues from the National Immigration Agency and FunLoving Studio gave a wonderful saxophone performance.

The organizer brought the "Vietnam GOGOGO Board Game Picture Book," sponsored by the Pingtung County Government, along with delicious foreign New Year's cuisines. This board game was used by Vietnamese moms to aid their children in learning Vietnamese through picture books. Additionally, there was live balloon sculpture show, which delighted the kids all.

The NIA Taitung County Service Center used this occasion to remind new immigrants not to take African swine fever prevention lightly, do not purchase illegal meat products online and ship to Taiwan, also do not ask relatives to send meat products from abroad to Taiwan.
