Foreigners applying for insurance with “New UI No. of Foreign Nationals” must first apply for a new health insurance card

Recently, some migrant workers have been refused to apply for health insurance with a New UI No. of Foreign Nationals. In this regard, the National Health Insurance Administration (MOHW) of Kaohsiung & Pingtung stated that from January 2, 2021, National Immigration Agency (NIA) uniformly issued “New UI No. of Foreign Nationals” for foreigners including Migrant workers, new residents. If you wish to apply for insurance with the old number of Health insurance card (NIC), it is still valid.

However, if you wish to apply for insurance with the New UI No. of Foreign Nationals and discard the old one, you need to change the insurance information and renew a new health insurance card. You need to pay NT$200 for the application fees.

Lin Shu Hua (林淑華), the head of the National Health Insurance Administration of Kaohsiung & Pingtung, said that people wishing to change their cards are mostly applying at the counter. If the migrant workers need to change their old card to a new one after receiving their New UI No. of Foreign Nationals, there is a new option available now.

It can be applied by the insured unit online with the option “Foreign Population Change and Update the UI No. & Application for a Health Insurance Card Replacement”. With the information from NIA, one does not need to upload the photo again.
