5 books that will change the way you see the world or your mindset

I'm not a book person, to be honest, but I do understand how a good book will bring people a better mindset of embracing and respecting all values to see this world. Sometimes good books also need a heart that is willing to accept and trust them. Here are 6 good books that I believe will change the way you see the world, wake up some part of your curiosity, and review the way you treat people.

  • Give and Take by Adam Grant

It was a random book that I read when I was 18. This book impressed me at that time because I hadn't expected it would show me a different way to see "giving". Adam Grant examines the most successful individuals' stories in a variety of fields and finds one thing they all have in common, they are "givers". This book is not to tell people how to be successful but allows people to review their interactions with people and to see if they are givers(people who can’t help but lend a hand to whoever is in need, matcher( people who choose to remain in the middle, between giving and taking), or takers(people who always place their interest at the forefront).

  • SapiensA Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari

It's amazing reading this book, I have to say. No kidding. This book made me feel like I'd lived in an office all my life and suddenly one day a time machine took me back and forth between past and present. Fine, that seemed abstract. But this is also the reason why this book should be on your must-read list. This book deals with big themes that definitely affect everyone in the world. It's not easy reading it but very interesting and worth reading.

  • Beloved by Toni Morrison

If the previous book is difficult to read, then this book, Beloved, is too heartbreaking for me to read it again. This new novel is set after the end of the Civil War when a great deal of random violence was let loose upon blacks, both the slaves freed by Emancipation and others who had been given or had bought their freedom earlier. The stories between the characters, Sethe, Denver (Sethe's daughter), and a sad, malicious and angry ghost, the spirit of Sethe's baby daughter, would stir up your deepest emotions and also shows some part of those African Americans' real life at that time.

  • The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life by Mark Manson

I know the previous three books are kind of serious, but this one will certainly let go of yourself. "This book is not about not giving a F*ck to anything in life. As the author rightly points out, that would make you a psychopath. Instead, it is a book that wakes you up and makes you look at what you should be spending your time." (Irani, 2017) This book is also hilarious because it's just too real that we sometimes fail to admit.

  • Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell

An Outlier is someone who is way ahead of anyone else. "Instead of celebrating prodigies, this book shows that there really is no such thing as a "prodigy." The reason why successful people are successful is that success is a combination of hard work, opportunity, and seizing the moment. What Gladwell explains is that to "achieve the tipping point and become an outlier requires 10,000 hours spent doing one thing". It also requires a tremendous amount of luck, good fortune or whatever you call it. Does it motivate you to work harder? Don't worry, just read it first.
