To enhance new residents' understanding of gender equality, the Hualien County Service Station of the National Immigration Agency's Northern Affairs Brigade held a gender equality course on December 5.

The course invited Huang Liangshao, a clinical psychologist from the Xikou Mental Nursing Home at Yuli Hospital under the Ministry of Health and Welfare and a member of the Hualien Sexual Autonomy Offenders Assessment Committee. Through interactive games and practical sharing, Huang emphasized the importance of "equality for all" and promoted the integration of gender awareness into daily life.

Huang started the class with a gender equality mini-game designed by Executive Yuan, creating a lively atmosphere and breaking barriers and misconceptions among participants. He further introduced CEDAW (the 1979 Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women), explaining that Taiwan voluntarily signed CEDAW in 2007, enacted the Implementation Act of CEDAW in 2011, and formally implemented it in 2012. This reflects the government’s commitment and achievements in eliminating gender discrimination.Instructor Huang Liangshao explained the concept of diverse genders to new residents and shared practical cases. During the course, new resident participants actively shared their gender experiences within their cultural backgrounds. Xiao Qin, a new resident from Indonesia, mentioned that in Indonesia's matriarchal society, women hold a high status. However, the social standing of men and women remains equal. While women are highly respected, men are neither demeaned nor overlooked, exemplifying a balanced gender culture.

This course combined theory with practical examples, helping new resident sisters better understand the core values of gender equality while fostering cultural integration and mutual respect. Moving forward, the National Immigration Agency will continue promoting similar courses, encouraging new residents to integrate into Taiwanese society and realizing a vision of multicultural harmony and equality for all.
