According to the Ministry of Culture, the new permanent location for Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute (TFAI) officially opened on Jan. 7 with the purpose of repairing and developing the collection of audiovisual materials. President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文), Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌), Minister of Culture Lee Yung-te (李永得), and Mayor of New Taipei City Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) were also present at the opening ceremony.

A library, multi-purpose room, exhibition gallery, and other areas are among the features of the new structure. It will be built on public land in the heart of Xinzhuang granted by the New Taipei City Government, which is also in charge of the building's construction.

TFAI, like many others in the film business, has kept up with the international trend of digital film restoration in recent years, according to President Tsai, who spoke at the occasion. These organizations collect, preserve, and promote Taiwanese vintage films, ensuring that they remain well-known in the market.

President Tsai expressed her hope that, now that TFAI has been upgraded from an incorporated foundation to an administrative public body, the institute will continue to make significant progress by expanding its mission to include areas such as television, radio, and others, to revitalize Taiwan's cultural industry.

Premier Su stated that the central government firmly supports the building of the second phase venue, and that he believes this new monument would serve as a vital showcase for Taiwanese films around the world.

According to TFAI, the opening of the building is a significant milestone, and it is hoped that the next public events would rekindle Taiwanese people's memories of cinema history.

The Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute is Taiwan's only administrative institution dedicated to audiovisual asset collection. It is dedicated to using digital restoration technology to save and maintain audio-visual archives, as well as to preserve memory and history through video and audio.
