Ku from France can demonstrate a high level of proficiency in French, English, Korean and Chinese. After graduating from a university in Seoul, South Korea, Ku decided to settle down in Taiwan where he has stayed for a short while before. Ku is running a YouTube Channel “Ku's dream酷的夢” that shares cultural differences between Taiwan and France. Now, the number of subscribers of the channel has exceeded more than one million.

In this episode of the “New Immigrants in Taiwan” column, Ku brought his British friend – Allen to try special flavors of Chinese omelet in Taiwan.

“I have tried several versions of Chinese omelet a million times before,” Allen said.

The omelets in many modern breakfast shops are made with eggs wrapped with crusts, but this shop is different from others because the “homemade batter” is used instead. Besides, special ingredients such as takoyaki and instant noodles are used as filling.

Once the dishes were served, Allen hesitated slightly before taking the first bite of the food because Ku ordered unique flavors for him to try.

The two started eating the first dish. “It was unsurprisingly century egg,” Allen said. Since Allen had tried century egg many times, he was used to the taste and even like it a lot. “The homemade paste makes the Chinese omelet thicker.”

Allen then tried the second flavor of the Chinese omelet which was made with octopus. The food is rich in filling, and toppings and it looks mouth-watering. “It’s good but the octopus is a bit too chewy,” he said.

Here comes an interesting flavor of Chinese omelet to Allen – instant noodles. “They have kept the peppery spicy flavor of the instant noodles,” Allen said. “It’s really nice, and it’s just something that I have never experienced before.”

Lastly, Ku recommended the breakfast dessert – taro sandwich to Allen. As Allen had mentioned that he was not a big fan of taro, Ku hoped the taro sandwich would change his perspectives on taro dishes.

A mouthful bite of the sandwich reminded Allen of custard in a trifle. “It’s absolutely delicious, and I might go for a taro sandwich if it is available in convenient stores.”
