Alisa 莎莎 from Hunan, China, traveled to the Philippines after graduating from university. While she was working and enjoying her life, she met a Taiwanese there and now they got married and settled in Kaohsiung with a daughter.

Because of work, Alisa's husband needs to travel between Taiwan and China. In times of pandemic, many expatriates need to serve quarantine and isolation while going abroad and home. This is therefore Alisa created a YouTube Channel “Alisa Loves Life (Alisa愛生活)” to share the quarantine arrangements in detail with audiences who face similar concerns over how to prepare for overseas trips. Besides, there are also many daily videos sharing travel, life, parenting, and couples, which brings her every aspect of life to the audience.

In this episode of the “New Immigrants in Taiwan” column, Alisa talks about her initial intention to create the channel and anecdotes about her marriage in Taiwan. In terms of food differences, she found out that grass jelly (燒仙草) in Taiwan is served warm taste while that in China is served cold.

In addition, she tried a special type of pomelo - Wen Dan (文旦) and lychee – Yu He Bao (玉荷包), which are not often heard in her hometown in Hunan.

There are many snacks in Taiwan, and one of her favorites is iron egg (鐵蛋) which is a popular food in Tamsui. Alisa's first impression of it is that it was very hard, but it tastes very chewy with a rich flavor when it was bitten

The last difference is about seeing a doctor. You must pay for each checkup in hospitals in China first before seeing a doctor, and this results in long waiting hours before getting the medical treatment.  In Taiwan, patients can make payments after the whole treatment is over and this is convenient to us.

Recently, Alisa's family returned to Taiwan and will stay in Taiwan for the upcoming Chinese New Year (CNY). This is also the first time she is experiencing CNY cultures in Taiwan. In the future, she will share more Taiwanese life with the audience.
