The first prize of the Taiwan National Second-generation New Immigrant Singing Competition goes to Wang Shu-Yan, a six-grader from Taichung.

In the competition, Wang Shu-Yan sang a Taiwanese song named 恩情無人可比 in Chinese.

Wang Shu Yan showed impressive vocal techniques with a powerful voice on stage. And as she sang her heart out, everyone was all touched by her voice.

Wang Shu-Yan’s mother is from Mainland China. When the  NIA Global News  reporter interviews her, she shares that Wang Shu Yan enjoyed singing. They found this singing competition on the NIA Global News Facebook page,  Taiwan我來了, and were happy to be qualified for the competition. Wang Shu Yan was very excited that she can have a chance to sing on stage.

Wang Shu-Yan put a lot of effort into the performance. Wang couldn’t speak any Taiwanese. But her singing teacher thinks her voice is suitable to sing Taiwanese songs. Therefore, Wang started practicing Taiwanese every day. Eventually, she fell in love with Taiwanese songs and got first prize in this competition.

Wang Shu Yan’s mother didn’t know how to speak Taiwanese as well. But she didn’t miss any of Wang Shu Yan’s singing classes. Wang Shu Yan’s mother would take notes during the class, and remind Wang Shu Yan of the teacher’s suggestions.

The language barrier didn’t stop Wang Shu Yan and her mother, they still tried their best to present a perfect performance.

Wang Shu-Yan’s performance also showed strong emotional power. One of the lyrics was, “I love you, but I put it in my heart, shy to express it.” Wang Shu Yan’s performance expresses how children can be shy of saying “I love you” to their parents. Her love for her mother is strongly reflected in her song. And for all the children who are shy to express their love, Wang Shu-Yan helps them sing the love out loudly.
