Taiwan Immigrants' Global News Network】According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, on January 17, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) began implementing the "no vaccination, no ride" policy in Metro Manila's public transportation to further restrict the unvaccinated people's movement.

Only fully vaccinated individuals who provide their vaccination card and a valid or government-issued identification card are permitted to ride public transit, according to DOTr policy.

In a statement, Transportation Assistant Secretary Goddes Hope Libiran said, "According to [Secretary Arthur] Tugade, execution of the 'No Vaxx, No Ride' regulation must be tolerant and patient, but strict."

Passengers with medical issues that prevent them from becoming immunized, those transporting or delivering important products and services, and those traveling to inoculation sites to acquire a vaccination are exempt from the ban.

The policy covers travel to, from, and within Metro Manila by land, sea, and air. Because the implementation is still in its early stages, only warnings will be issued. The agency announced that ticket distribution will begin on Tuesday.

While Alert Level 3 or higher is raised over the region, the policy will stay in effect. Prior to the DOTr mandate, President Rodrigo Duterte had already instructed barangay chiefs to "restrain" persons who are still unvaccinated against COVID-19 from leaving their homes, citing an increase in new coronavirus cases in the country.
