From January 1st, 2023, many new policies will also be launched with the upcoming new year. "Taiwan Immigrants’ Global News Network" sorted out the new policies for readers to understand, including basic salary raise, new environmental protection policies, national judges and The Civil Code has amended the legal age lower to age of 18, unlocking more rights for people aged 18 to 20.

  • Basic salary

Starting from January 1st, 2023, the basic salary will be raised, and the salary will be adjusted from 25,250 NTD to 26,400 NTD, an increase of 1,150 NTD, an adjustment of about 4.56%; the wage will also be adjusted from 168 NTD to 176 NYD, an increase of 8 NTD.

  • New policy on environment protection

From December 1st, 2022, Taipei City will implement "No plastic beverage cups provided" in beverage stores, including PLA cups made of biodegradable plastics. From January 1st, 2023, a new policy of recycling cups will be launched. For convenient store and fast-food restaurant chains, at least 5% of their outlets must provide recycling cup loan services.

  • Citizen judges

From January 1st, 2023, citizens of various industries who have reached age of 23 and  have lived in the jurisdiction of the court for more than 4 months, they will have the opportunity to participate in the trial of major criminal cases through "random selection". Employers should pay salary as they are paid, and full attendance bonuses cannot be withheld. (In addition, if one fail to appear in court on the election day of a national judge without a proper reason, can be fined up to 30,000 NTD.)

  • Amend legal to age 18 under Civil Code

Starting from January 1st, 2023, citizens who have reached the age of 18 are "persons with full capacity of conduct" in the Civil Code, and are able to engage in valid legal acts, such as purchasing lottery, applying for telephone numbers, bank accounts, credit cards, loans, signing contracts. The amendment also includes citizens who have reached the age of 18 are able to file civil and administrative lawsuits, start a company, become a director, and independently establish a medical statement.

However, it was originally stipulated that men can marry at the age of 18 and women at the age of 16, but after the amendment, both parties must be at least 18 years old to get married; in addition, the right of all citizens to vote still require at least 20 years of age.
