The university internship students at the Kinmen Station of the NIA make multilingual posters to promote the prevention of "African Swine Fever" to the new immigrants

During the summer vacation, the anti-epidemic alert was downgraded, and four freshmen from the Department of Ocean and Border Management of National Quemoy University (金門大學海洋與邊境管理學系) came to the Kinmen County Service Station (金門縣服務站) to start a full-month internship. National Quemoy University is the only tertiary institution in Taiwan that has established a Department of Ocean and Border Management. Every summer, students are arranged to go to the National Immigration Agency (NIA, 移民署) and other units for internships to help them familiarize themselves with the operation of the workplace in advance.

The students who participated in the summer practical internship all said that the senior sisters of the NIA are very kind and friendly. They have gained a lot of valuable experience during the internship and enhanced many insights, such as professional immigration regulations, counseling and care for new immigrants, skills such as public communication, and the understanding of the practical contents of many topics and processes. Among them, the free computer classes for new immigrants made a deep impression on the interns. They said that during the process of teaching new immigrants about computers, the computer skills that were common for them, were unexpectedly new for the new immigrants. The internship also coincided with the strengthening of the awareness and prevention of African swine fever. To help new immigrants understand how to prevent African swine fever, the students used their expertise in art to produce a multilingual poster for new immigrants and migrant workers. This is to increase their awareness of African swine fever and to block African swine fever from abroad.

Liao Wei-Lan (廖蔚蘭), director of the Kinmen County Service Station, said that the issue of ocean and border management is becoming more and more important. Through summer internship opportunities, students can learn from attitudes, visions, and practical experiences, to understand public affairs policies and processes. The participation of students brings enthusiasm and vitality to the service station, and the NIA will continue to expand cooperation with other parties in the future and train more professional talents.
