Summer is the peak season for people to travel to offshore islands because visitors can enjoy aquatic activities. On the other side, traveling to these islands in autumn and winter enables one to experience different charms of life on the island such as Penghu.
This episode of【New immigrants in Taiwan】shares two Japanese in Taiwan, Kazuki and Takashi, visiting Penghu and their wonderful journey of experiencing traditional cultures and trying local cuisines in Penghu.

One of the seasonal activities in Penghu is Taiwanese Beach Seine (牽罟) which is held at Lintou beach in winter. The activity is carried out by the crowd pulling the fishing net ashore together, and this is a must-try cultural activity in a traditional fishing village.
With the staff’s explanation, Kazuki and Takashi tied gadgets around their waists, hung the rope on the fishing net and fastened them, and then used their waist strength to drive their feet backward. Everyone worked together and moved back until they saw the trail of the fishing net.

In addition to eating glutinous rice balls during the winter solstice, two traditional delicacies in Penghu are must-eat on the day which are animal-shaped snacks (雞母狗) made of rice and vegetable rice snack (菜繭). Guided by a master, Kazuki and Takashi also tried making animal-shaped snacks.

Besides, Kazuki and Takashi also visited the Magong City in Penghu County where there are many monuments and historical buildings. The "Penghu Tianhou Temple" (澎湖天后宮), the oldest temple in Taiwan, is a must-visit place for tourists visiting Penghu. Kazuki and Takashi also entered the temple to pay homage and admired the belief center of the people in the Magong area.
When one comes to Penghu, one must try seafood. Kazuki and Takashi were very impressed with Penghu’s unique delicacy "Cactus Fried Rice (仙人掌炒飯)" as it tastes delicious.
It is recommended that one must try Cactus Fried Rice which is made of cactus juices, showing a natural red color with its pigment. The readers are welcome to have a slow-paced life and a taste of gourmet food in Penghu during the winter season.
