Japan has high-paying salaries but also high expenses. The Japanese YouTuber Yasushi Sato, who lived and studied in Japan, together with her Japanese husband Sato San, shared on their YouTube Channel-Rabbit and Sugar-Sato Yasushi, the difference in spending between Taiwan and Japan, they think that it is better to live in Taiwan.

For Yasushi Sato, the most painful thing to spend for in Japan is "there is a charge for throwing large items as garbage". In Taiwan, if you call the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA, 環保局), their staff will collect it for free. Mr. Sato said that his most painful expenses are vehicle taxes and vehicle inspection and maintenance fees. He said that vehicle inspections in Japan are very strict.

They also shared the other high expenses that many foreigners living in Japan also agree with:
- The handling fees for remittance and withdrawal. The handling fee for collecting money in Japan is around NT$51 to 178. When in Japan, Sato Yasushi would withdraw more money at one-time to save on the handling fees. In Taiwan, fees for withdrawal is cheap and is only NT$15, one can withdraw anytime you want.
- The cost of changing the door lock when renting a house in Japan is paid for by the new tenant. In Taiwan, the landlord pays for this expense.
- Many different taxes are deducted from the salaries of regular employees in Japan. Aside from income tax deduction, a "resident tax" must be paid to the local government of the area where one lives, which makes them feel that "they are being charged for breathing in that area".
- In Japan, mobile phone rates are high and internet access is limited. Mr. Sato was surprised when he came to Taiwan, he found out that Taiwanese mobile phone services have unlimited internet access, and the rates are even cheaper than Japan.
- Fruits are very expensive in Japan. Mr. Sato and his wife said that Taiwanese fruits cheap and delicious, and they feel that Taiwan is a fruit paradise.
- Japan's medical expenses are high. Compared to Japan, Taiwan's medical expenses is not high and Taiwan's health insurance system is very good and complete.
