There is an increasing tendency for the public to share covid-related news with people around them for fear of missing out during the pandemic. It can be almost impossible for the general audience, however, to keep fake news at bay in such eagerness.

An immagrant from Vietnam allegedly spread fake news via streaming media in Taipei, catching the police’s attention and forced to remove the post. The police reminded the public that it was against the criminal law to popularize information with less credibility and reliability.

According to Article 14 of "Special Regulations on Prevention and Relief of Severe Infectious Pneumonia," those spreading false information on COVID-19 shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of up to three years, criminal detention, or a fine of at most NT$3 million. 

Official platforms for clarification include the Ministry of Health and Welfare (衛生福利部), Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (衛生福利部疾病管制署), National Police Agency of the Ministry of the Interior (內政部警政署刑事警察局), and the Investigation Bureau of the Ministry of Justice (法務部調查局). Private platforms include Taiwan FactCheck Center, LINE Fact Checker, Rumor&Truth, MyGoPen.
