Taiwanese businesspeople donated to and formed the Tang Prize in the same manner as the Nobel Prize. Six Tang Prize laureates traveled to Taiwan to take part in the 5th Tang Prize Laureates Award Ceremony. Dr. Karikó Katalin, the "mother of mRNA" and the laureate in biopharmaceutical science, visited Taipei First Girls High School to share her ups and downs but inspirational life experiences and to encourage young aspirants who want to be scientists to keep learning, grow, and bravely pursue their dreams.

Dr. Karikó Katalin claimed that during the previous decades, getting demoted had happened to her numerous times. She is passionate in mRNA research even if nobody is interested. Katalin is certain that the research done is unparalleled while others do not recognize the potential of mRNA. Importantly, the numerous failures she has encountered have strengthened her resilience and given her the confidence to stand up for herself.

By giving this speech, Dr. Karikó Katalin hopes to inspire young people who want to pursue careers in science to love what they do, develop the ability to deal with pressure, maintain their happiness, and believe that they can step outside of their comfort zones. She also looks forward to seeing more members of the new generation of students enter the field of science.
