A total of 2 batches (1.84 million doses) of the BNT vaccine has arrived in Taiwan! High school students will be prioritized

According to [Taipei Times], the second batch of 910,000 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine arrived yesterday, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said.

The first batch of about 930,000 doses arrived on Thursday last week. Together with yesterday’s doses, which expire on Jan. 17 next year, the nation has received about 1.84 million BioNTech doses.

According to the CECC, this batch of the vaccines will be distributed and offered to the target groups according to the CECC's plans. Adolescents aged 12-17 (inclusive) are prioritized for the vaccine shots, and the shots will be given according to the lists of eligible adolescents it compiles, and people aged 18-22 (inclusive) who have registered their willingness and are not vaccinated will be the next group of recipients to receive the remaining vaccine doses.

Senior high school students will be the first group to take the jabs, followed by junior high school students, Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) Spokesman Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥) announced on Sunday (Sept. 5).

According to [Taiwan News], Chuang has recently said that the country will first focus on immunizing students at junior and senior high school campuses around the Mid-Autumn Festival (Sept. 21). After that, it will strive to make the BNT vaccine available to young people between the ages of 18-22 before the end of September.

The country's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) estimated the testing and lot release procedures for this batch of vaccine doses can be completed by Sept.16 at the earliest. The vaccines will be rolled out upon inspection and approval.
