NIA to Care for Migrant Workers and Keep African Swine Fever at Bay

National Immigration Agency Nantou County Service Center went to the industrial zone under its control together with Specialized Operation Corps, to hold three events of "Caring for Migrant Workers and Propagating the Prevention and Control of African Swine Fever" as the Lunar New Year drew near. The promotional content was presented to the migrant employees on-site with quick interpretation in their local languages conveyed by translators who spoke Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Thai so they could grasp the promotional content and related rights.

Recently, there have been more and more cases of travelers bringing animal products illegally due to the border's gradual opening. This time, the Nantou County Service Center will manage the initial round of care services for migrant workers in 2023 in connection with the upcoming Lunar New Year. Importing animal products against the law is prohibited. The first offense will result in a NT$200,000 fine, while the second offense will result in a NT$1,000,000 fine.

You will be denied entrance and fined NT$200,000 if you do not have a residency status (such as tourists or short-term exchange students) and unable to pay the fine immediately.  Additionally, if a package containing imported pork products is seized and found shipped from countries where African swine fever has occurred for the first time, the recipient will be penalized NT$200,000; for the second or subsequent instances, a high fine of 1 million NTD would be applied.

Cai, Chong-Fu(蔡崇富), director of the NIA Nantou County Service Center, said that migrant workers who left their hometowns to work in Taiwan would unavoidably miss the flavor of their homeland when the Lunar New Year draws near. Additionally, migrant workers are advised to ride electric bicycles that are legally listed and not to modify them. Don’t drive after drinking after New Year's Eve banquets.
