As the “International Mother Language Day” is on February 21, the Ministry of the Interior National Immigration Agency (NIA) launched the Podcast program “Talks on Cultures & Immigrants’ journeys”. The program was produced and broadcasted by the second generation of immigrants, inviting immigrant’s children to share their experiences while residing in Taiwan, as well as to encourage them to use their native languages more often.

The host of this program is also a highlight. It is hosted by the second generation of immigrant from Vietnam, Chen Jin Ling (陳金鈴), and an immigration officer Wang Zhi Wen (王志文) in Taiwan.

On the first episode, the second generation of immigrants from Vietnam - Liu De Yao (劉德曜) and from Indonesia - Lin Xiao Ting (林小婷) were invited as guests. Since young, their parents brought them back to their hometowns for immersive learning of native languages. Therefore, they could speak their own mother tongue fluently.

As Taiwan is encouraging bilingual and multilingual learnings, immigrants were further motivated to learn native languages.
