Taiwan Immigrants' Global News Network-Second generation of immigrants from the Philippines masters culinary skills & sets up business selling healthy lunch box

In cooperation with IC Voice FM97.5【New Students Report For Sharing -We are in Taiwan】, a series of exciting stories about new immigrants in Taiwan is launched. This episode invites the second generation of immigrants from the Philippines – Lin Song Min (林頌閔).

He graduated from the Catering Department of the Tainan University of Technology. During his studies, he participated in various international cooking competitions as well as volunteer work that spend quality time with students and the elderly living in remote areas. It can be said that he is a model for the children of immigrants.

When Lin Song Min was in kindergarten, his father passed away due to illness and his mother was repatriated to the Philippines, but he did not give up his future.

While studying in middle school, he tried to cook for himself and his younger brother, which inspired him to embark on learning culinary skills. He has been recognized through many international competitions and even won the Presidential Education Award in 2017.

The two brothers, fortunately, were taken care of by their uncles thus avoiding being sent to an orphanage. Lin Song Min learned how to take care of his younger brother and be responsible for himself when he was a child.

From 2015 to 2016, Lin has received numerous awards, including ones from China – FHC China International Culinary Arts Competition and others from Taiwan – TCAC. Besides learning cooking skills, he also visited primary schools or charities in rural areas as a volunteer. Good deeds he has done include preparing lunch boxes for disadvantaged groups and leading children to engage in health education activities.

After graduating, he devoted himself to setting up a business “sibaowe healthy lunch box” nearby the university he studied. Each dish is prepared with three rules, including (1) using olive oil instead of salad oil; (2) strictly selecting fresh ingredients, and no excessive seasoning; (3) presenting the food without using processed products.
