Due to the COVID-19 cluster uncovered at Taoyuan Farglory Free Trade Zone, the Ministry of Labor (MOL, 勞動部) collaborated with Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC), strictly requesting employers and human resources recruitment agencies to follow epidemic prevention measures & contact tracing. MOL also has introduced 4 contingency measures as follows.

  1. Contact tracing of migrant workers

To curb virus spread, MOL has mobilized 1995 hotline personnel, and interpreters working at Taoyuan International Airport to carry out contact tracing. Besides, companies hiring more than 50 people will be assisted in contact tracing for the first round, and there will be plans to conduct COVID-19 testing for companies employing less than 50 people.

  1. Fines and penalties for Violation of Epidemic Prevention Measures

Employers must abide by measures including staggered working hours, migrant workers hired by different employers or working in different locations cannot live on the same floor of the dormitory, clearly state job rules & dormitory management rules, further promote epidemic prevention measures, pay attention to worker’s health & arrange medical treatment for workers, prepare isolation rooms, etc.

Employers acting in violation of the law, individuals will be fined NT$60,000 to 300,000, and their Recruitment Permit will be revoked in accordance with the “Employment Services Act”.

  1. Encourage migrant workers to be fully vaccinated

MOL appeals to employers and manpower agencies to help migrant workers prepare personal identification documents and get vaccinated as soon as possible. Individuals wishing to get the booster shot can make an appointment on the COVID-19 vaccination registration platform. The 24-hour 1955 Hotline service in different languages is open for anyone who has inquiries about vaccination.

  1. Promote the concept of epidemic prevention to migrant workers

Moreover, migrant workers can check the latest information on “Line@E-Line” in English, Thai, Indonesian, and Vietnamese or on the Transnational Labor Rights Protection Portal.
