《Living Away from Home—2019 Migrant worker film screening》
The number of the foreign workers in Taiwan has reached 6 hundred thousand people, while the number of the new resident has reached 5 hundred thousand. It is an undeniable fact that both the foreign worker and the new resident have meant a lot to Taiwanese society over these years. However, the story of their life still seems far away from the locals. Thanks to the migrant worker film screening selection, we now have this great opportunity to hear from them and learn more about their life from their perspectives. Tosse Publiser has chosen nine films to share with everyone on Nov 30th to Dec 1st and Dec 7th to Dec 8TH. Moreover, there are four Q and A sections. Everyone is welcome to come discuss and share the story with us.

Homesick Tongue《漂流廚房》is a film focused on a new female resident, her life experience and self-identification process. She has been questioning herself for who she really is since she was mistaken for another person on the border. As her parents are no longer there at her hometown, Cambodia, she has been trying to bring back the memories by copying her mom’s repcipe…..

Out/Marriage《失婚記》is the first Taiwanese film that presents the cross cultural marriage from the new resident’s point of view. The director created a comfortable situation and trust with the subjects, so they can talk about how they feel about the struggle of their marriages in front of the camera. Sometime you have to take a step forward, sometimes you have to give in and take a step back…….

Hut《工寮》has just won the Path Breaker Award at the South Taiwan Film Festival. The way the director presents the story is bold and experimental. With the hand-held cinematography and rough recording style, the judges are all amazed. It is a story about a runaway Indonesian worker H, who love strolling around so much, built a hut on his employer’s farmland. He has been hiding his friend R who is also a runaway and almost got caught by the police. One night, H got a call from another friend T. T is going to bring B over to the hut too, and also caretaker E and another runaway D. It seems like their secret hut has been exposed…….
