The first "iTrash smart trash can" was formally launched in Taoyuan City. It performs tasks including compression, deodorization, and refrigeration using a variety of sensors and the Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT). When disposing of trash, there won't be any smell, and it will automatically inform the cleaning personnel to clean up to increase the cleanliness of the city's environment when its eighty percent full. Additionally, it offers services like recycling storage back to the EasyCard, enabling the general people to experience the idea of utilizing technology and environmental conservation simultaneously.

The Taoyuan mayor made the observation that in the past, because there was no information available on the garbage cans' capacities, the cleaning staff had to spend a lot of time each day examining each trash can, which inadvertently wasted a lot of labor expenses. Additionally, the public may scan the trash cans’ QR code to inform staff to handle any damage or soiled items, helping to jointly maintain the city's environment.
According to the Department of Environmental Protection, installing large iTrash smart trash cans in heavily populated places is one of its fully realized future ambitions. In places with low population densities and no energy supply, small battery-powered smart trash cans will be installed.
There should be eight more large smart trash cans added the following year. 83 sets of small ones will be added the next year in addition to the 80 sets slated for installation this year.
