South Korean YouTuber lixian (小賢), who has been residing in Taiwan for nearly eight years, chose to study in Taiwan because of the following two main reasons. His cousin was furthering her studies in Taiwan, and he also believed that learning the Chinese language would increase one’s competitive edge in the future. Besides, lixian also created a YouTube Channel “小賢 리시엔 lixian”, sharing information about travel, food, and cultural differences between Taiwan and Korea.

In this episode of “New Immigrants in Taiwan” column, lixian visited the Nanmen Market (南門市場) in Taipei City that was established more than a hundred years. Here, traditional stalls selling fresh chicken, fishery products, clothing, food, cooked food, groceries, vegetables, and a variety of goods are available to the market-goers.
She tried the tomato beef noodles from a popular delicacy stall "Hehuan Sliced Noodles (合歡刀削麵)" and beef fried rice with XO sauce from another famous stall "Guobin Fried Rice & Noodles (國賓炒飯麵)". She mentioned that the tomato beef noodles are rich in ingredients used, including vegetables, tomatoes, eggs and beef. “The handmade slice noodles match with the creamy soup, and it is very delicious to me,” she added.

Lixian then bought a traditional Chinese pastry at Hoshing (合興糕糰店), a well-established store that has been set up for 70 years and passed down for three generations. She had a taste of the osmanthus rolls (桂花捲), which is a pastry made by rice milk and sweet-scented osmanthus, and the mung bean cake (綠豆糕), which is a pastry made with mung beans. Moreover, there are also red bean filling and cheese flavor rolls that are mouthwatering to her.
