[Taiwan Immigrants’ Global News Network] A powerful earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale struck Turkey on March 6. The significant casualties shocked the world. Taiwan also recalls that the first international search and rescue team to rush to Taiwan during the September 21 earthquake was from Turkey. Taiwanese government hurriedly dispatched a search and rescue team of 130 people and search and rescue dogs to Turkey to aid in the rescue.
Professor Yilmaz Keskin, a new immigrant from Turkey who worked in the Department of Political Science of Tunghai University, took a plane back to Turkey as soon as he learned of the earthquake and then drove more than ten hours to the disaster area while the Taiwan search and rescue team was on a mission in Turkey at the time. He also came into a Taiwanese search and rescue squad and offered to join them as an interpreter. The Taiwan search and rescue team's operations in Turkey were successful thanks to Professor Yilmaz Keskin's assistance.

Professor Yilmaz Keskin, who is usually very enthusiastic about public welfare, came to Taiwan in 1993 to study Chinese and then formed a family. Yilmaz Keskin obtained a PhD degree from Department of Political Science of Tunghai University ten years ago and was hired to teach at Tunghai University five years ago. He is currently an assistant professor at Tunghai University.

Professor Yilmaz Keskin provided language assistance in the disaster area, helped transport supplies, and aided the Taiwan search and rescue team during the earthquake tragedy in Turkey. Professor Yilmaz Keskin said that the strong earthquake hit Turkey and Syria hard and caused heavy casualties to the people, which made him feel sad, but he was still very grateful for Taiwan's aid.

Yilmaz Keskin's wife lost contact with her husband for two days, and finally relied on her mobile phone to locate and make a video call with him. Seeing Professor Yilmaz Keskin and the search and rescue team successfully completed the task, she was full of pride. Mrs. Keskin said that her husband helped the Turkish search and rescue team translate at 921 To save Taiwan, now help the Taiwan rescue team to translate to help Turkey.
