To make the service hotline consistent and easier for foreigners living in Taiwan to memorize, National Immigration Agency (NIA) has changed it to 1990. The hotline provides instant consultation services in 7 languages for immigrants and foreigners in Taiwan. The service includes Residence Certificate Act, immigration, interpretation, social welfare, medical and health, tax, transportation, etc.
In addition, the 1992 hotline will still be available during the pandemic period, resolving foreign nationals’ problems.
Chen Zhu Li (陳竹莉), an immigrant from Vietnam, mentioned that there was a language barrier when she first arrived in Taiwan. Besides, she didn’t know NIA provided such a hotline and therefore she could only ask her Vietnamese friends residing in Taiwan once she encountered problems.
After NIA changed the service hotline to 1990, she can remember it more easily. Moreover, the mother-tongue language service available makes her feel more comfortable when making an inquiry, and she’s very willing to recommend the hotline to other immigrants and migrant workers.

Huang Yan Xun (黃艷薰), the Director of Chiayi City Service Center, stated that the 1990 hotline also provides three-way calling services to overcome language barriers. It is hoped that foreigners living in Taiwan can feel a sense of security little bit more.
