Because there are more than 700,000 migrant workers in Taiwan, The Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC, 金管會) announced on January 6 that if the migrant workers are diagnosed with COVID-19 after entering Taiwan, the health insurance plan for migrant workers approved by 6 companies would cover their medical and hospitalization costs up to NT$500,000 if they should contract COVID-19 within 30-days of arriving in Taiwan.

This pandemic insurance covers various medical expenses incurred in the treatment of COVID-19, including being admitted to wards, meal expenses, nursing expenses, medication prescribed by the physician, registration fees and supporting documents, ambulance expenses, hospitalization medical expenses, and surgical expenses, etc.
The FSC stated that it attaches great importance to the rights and interests of vulnerable financial consumers, such as the physically and mentally handicapped, economically disadvantaged and foreign migrant workers. Therefore, it has proposed a number of financial measures to provide protection for these groups.

The FSC revealed that the commercial health insurance plans submitted by 6 companies are approved, including Fubon Insurance Co., Ltd. (富邦產險), Chung Kuo Insurance Co., LTD (兆豐產險), Hotai Insurance (和泰產險), Taian Insurance (泰安產險), Shinkong Insurance (新光產險), and Cathay Century Insurance (國泰世紀產險). Migrant workers can choose individual insurance or join group insurance according to their needs.
