Lin Xing-rong (林倖戎), an elementary school student with autism in Yilan, shone brightly in a singing contest held by National Immigration Agency (NIA, 內政部移民署) to celebrate Mother’s Day in May.

Lin’s mother, Lin Zi-qing (林紫青), a Mainland spouse, is a former singer-to-be. When her daughter was discovered to be autistic at age one, Lin Zi-qing joined An-An Slow Angels’ Family Support Association (宜蘭縣安安慢飛天使家庭關懷協會) and volunteered to give voice to the autistic through the ukulele.

In recent years, according to Lin Zi-qing, her daughter is able to face the public without anxiety, and get along with classmates well. She feels grateful for the neighborhood and people supportive of the Lin family. This year, Lin Xing-rong even won the Presidential Education Award of the Ministry of Education (教育部總統教育獎).
