[Taiwan Immigrants’ Global News Network] On Monday, January 31st, diesel locomotive DL-34 on the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway finally arrived safely after traveling 9,971 kilometers from Taiwan's Alishan Forest Railway.

In order to formally establish a sister railway, Chairman Stephen G. Clews of the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway in the United Kingdom and the Alishan Forest Railway in Taiwan signed a letter of intent for cooperation in July of last year. After Japan, Switzerland, India, and the United Kingdom signed a total of seven railways to become sister railways, this is the Alishan Forest Railway. This will significantly aid Taiwan in developing its railway diplomacy and boost its visibility and friendliness on a global scale.

The Alishan Forest Railway's Chiayi Garage Park hosted the signing ceremony. Construction on the "Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway" in Wales, England, began in 1901, and it became operational in 1903. Twice in the middle, it was put on hold, and it wasn't until 1963 that the push was restarted thanks to the efforts of civil society organizations and avid railway fans. Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway has a tiny gauge of only 762 mm, much as the Alishan Forest Railway. A lot of railroad enthusiasts travel here because of the railway's dedication to maintaining steam trains.

The two railways, according to the vice chairman (翁章梁) of the Council of Agriculture, are rich in natural ecology and historical culture. The Alishan Forest Railway, according to director(林華慶) the director of Forestry Bureau, is a significant cultural resource in Taiwan. They will discuss the preservation, management, and sustainable usage of the railways between the two parties after signing the collaboration letter of intent today. Additionally, they will uphold the ideals of fairness, equality, and mutual gain while combining their resources to jointly market the two railways.
