‘Lets ECHO’ (樂。斯屬) promotes Southeast Asian cultures with interactive designs that stimulate 5 senses

According to the 4wayvoice, do you know that out of ten people in Taiwan, one has ever traveled to Southeast Asian countries? However, how many of them actually entered the Southeast Asian markets?

The ‘        Rou Zao Fan (肉噪販)! Cook a plate of assorted dishes made of local cultures from Taiwan and Southeast Asia’ planned by a youth team - ‘Lets ECHO’ (樂。斯屬) rounded off recently. The public was invited to don casual outfits, walk in a relaxed way, and hold a basket to make a bowl of unique dishes that is made of a mixed taste of Southeast Asian and Taiwanese cultures.

‘Lets ECHO’ was established in 2017 and was based in a village (Ban Santi Suk) located at the mountains of northern Thailand. Through the 4-year fieldwork, the group and the community look for the balance of local creation and cultural & historical education to coexist together. 

In response to the current pandemic situation, the team began to convene local creation teams from Southeast Asian countries in May this year to have online discussions that focus on the topic of ‘Take into consideration the local customs, how to promote local creations in times of the pandemic’.

The achievement of the series of dialogues was finally compiled and displayed in the exhibition ‘Rou Zao Fan’ held in November. The exhibition focuses on the image of the wet markets.

Combining five teams from Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand and other places, the achievements of the ‘Lets ECHO’ were showcased in four main zones, enabling the audience to understand the local cultures through interactive designs that stimulate their five senses.  

With the real-world puzzle-solving game ‘Adventures of a Foreign Land’, a simulation scene was created in the exhibition hall, allowing the audience to feel like they are in the realm and experience the life of the village located in Northern Thailand.

Various stories collected by the participants in the exhibition can finally be exchanged into a literature & historical cooking pack. The process would further allow the audience to be exposed to different cultures, which is the key point for them to be one step closer to understanding local cultures.
