According to The Star, when it comes to how well your sunglasses shield your eyes from ultraviolet (UV) radiation, it doesn't matter whether they are inexpensive, costly, or have bright or dark lenses.
The effects that your eyes are going to feel from too much sunshine are undoubtedly unpleasant. These include excruciating pain, swelling, tears, and even a brief loss of eyesight.
For adequate defense against dangerous UV rays, your sunglasses must have a UV400 level. If your sunglasses state "100% UV protection" or "UV absorption up to 400nm," it is also acceptable.
Spend more money on fancier sunglasses if you want to, but don't assume that they will provide superior protection. Even the most affordable sunglasses may provide enough UV400 protection.

Don't think that wearing sunglasses with polarized or dark lenses will help protect your eyes. The same is true for polarization, which by itself does not offer UV protection but merely lessens the glare from reflective objects like water. Darker lenses do not equate to more protection.
