The Chiayi Service Station of the National Immigration Agency holds family education courses and reminds new immigrants not to buy meat products online or import meat products from unknown sources

As the epidemic slows down, the Chiayi City Service Station of the Southern District Affairs Brigade of the National Immigration Agency (移民署南區事務大隊嘉義市服務站) has resumed family education courses. The courses include applying for a residence permit and obtaining Taiwanese nationality. At the same time, the local government’s family education center conducts classes on parenthood and family relationships. Also, to prevent the African swine fever epidemic, the service station also specifically reminded new immigrants not to buy meat products online or import meat from unknown sources, and everyone should work together to protect Taiwan’s pigs.

Ms. Li from mainland China said that she came to Taiwan more than a year ago, and her mother-in-law took her to participate in the educational activities. The courses organized by the National Immigration Agency (NIA, 移民署) made her more familiar with the residency laws and reminded her that her residence permit should be extended already.

Ms. Huang, who came to work in Taiwan from Vietnam met her husband who worked in Min Hsiung township as a welder, and they have been married for more than 2 years. Ms. Huang said that although she came to Taiwan because of work, she still doesn’t understand Chinese and because of her work, she has never participated in any government-sponsored courses. This time, she was invited to join by a fellow Vietnamese who works as a translator in the service station. Her husband also accompanied her, and she felt that she learned a lot.

The NIA stated that aside from providing legal information, they are also reminding new immigrants about the current African swine fever epidemic in various countries, and to implement border quarantine measures, the NIA reminds everyone not to bring in meat products into Taiwan, and not to buy meat products from unknown sources.

Huang Yen-hsun (黃艷薰), director of the Chiayi City Service Station, said that holding family education courses allows new immigrants to understand their rights and obligations, and hopes to help them adapt to life in Taiwan. In addition, due to the recent domestic seizures of smuggled meat from Vietnam contaminated with the African swine fever virus, the public is reminded again not to bring meat products from abroad, not to buy meat products online from abroad and send them to Taiwan, and not to visit livestock farms abroad. Bringing in meat into the country is a violation of regulations and can be fined up to NT$1 million.
