The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been operating Taiwan's New Southbound Policy Elite Study Program since last year to carry out the talent exchange component of the New Southbound Policy. This year, it invited 4 school representatives and 70 students from 8 New Southbound target countries, including Thailand and Indonesia, to participate. Representatives from Malaysia, Vietnam, and India in Taiwan were also invited to the opening ceremony, as were representatives from the Office of Trade Negotiations of the Executive Yuan.

The inaugural Taiwan's New Southbound Policy Elite Study Program, which was held last year, worked with three schools to choose 50 students from six New Southbound nations to study in Taiwan, and it was successful, according to the Deputy Foreign Minister. The program has grown for this year. The number of nations from which students come has expanded from 6 to 8, with the addition of Myanmar and Pakistan, in addition to the establishment of new partner schools.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs encourages students to not only take advantage of the opportunity to attend courses diligently while they are studying in Taiwan, but also to learn more about the stunning scenery and warm locals.
