Recently, the Taipei Zoo's panda "Yuan Zai" celebrated its tenth birthday. The zoo painstakingly prepared a birthday cake in the shape of Taipei 101 with components acceptable for pandas in addition to hosting a sizable number of visitors to celebrate its birthday.

Yuan Zai reached the yearly pseudo-pregnancy stage around this time, which resulted in a considerable decline in her appetite, excrement volume, and activity level. She was generally in a condition of laziness and had little interest in food. On Yuan Zai's birthday, she nonetheless consumed a small amount of cakes prepared with kiwi, pineapple, carrot, and other fruits. Yuan Zai did surprisingly well, and it was definitely not a simple feat to be able to taste cakes in front of so many admirers while the pseudo-pregnancy was going on, according to the zoo's spokeswoman Tsao Hsien-shao (曹先紹).

Yuan Zai's 10th birthday is not simply another birthday celebration for the zoo, according to the director (諶亦聰) of the Taipei Zoo. The birth of Yuan Zai is a huge boost for the zoo and its expert teams in the artificial breeding and feeding of wild animals, research on conservation beyond the boundaries, and even stimulate the task of reversing the trend of endangered species.
