The 9th Dream-Building Project , Second-generation New Immigrants Distribute Free Chicken Soup to Nursing Homes

[Taiwan Immigrants’ Global News Network] The winners of the 9th Dream-Building Project for New Immigrants and Their Children of NIA, Ministry of Interior was recently announced. Xiao Yiping (蕭依蘋) and Xiao Heyi (蕭禾翊), the second-generation immigrants from Chiayi, were selected for the subsidy of the social welfare service group for the project(孝心孝行持續進行,讓愛循環永續). The Xiao brother and sister have a plan of giving the elders in the nursing home and the community the homemade chicken soup, hoping to bring warmth and health to the elders, and through the activities, learn to serve others and contribute to social welfare.

Chang Yanjun(張艷君), the mother of the Xiao brother and sister, who is a new immigrant from Guangxi, China. Due to the sudden death of her husband, she has to take care of her in-laws and children alone. Chang not only gain success from her own business but share her experience and guided new immigrants in the Chiayi City to participate in the business accelerator program competition. She used the summer vacation to bring her children around Taiwan to give chicken soup. The activity has lasted for 3 years and has received a lot of recognition and support.

Xiao Heyi (蕭禾翊), a student in the catering program at Chiayi City Hsing-Hwa Senior High School said that he was given Certificate of Illness and Disability since he was congenitally stunted. He feels that nutritious food can make him healthier because his growth has substantially improved thanks to his mother's diet, thus he chooses to study in catering program and wishes to serve wonderful cuisine to everyone and carry on his mother’s good actions. The instructors and students of the Hsing-Hwa Senior High School catering department cooked chicken soup for the elderly, taking inspiration from Xiao Heyi.

The director of NIA Chiayi County Service Center (林炳煌) said that Ms. Chang Yanjun taught by example, and her children were influenced by their mothers to be grateful human beings. Their plan of passing on chicken soup was deeply recognized by the review committee of the Dream-Building Project. National Immigration Agency conducts many power-building programs to assist new residents every year, and the Dream-Building Project to stimulate the creativity and potential of new immigrants and their children and provide opportunities for practice.
