A YouTuber from Russia, Alex, who has been residing in Taiwan for about 7 years created a Channel “lexww歐亞力” to share his daily life and gourmet food he has tried in Taiwan. In this episode of the "New Immigrants in Taiwan" column, Alex invited John Peters, a Swiss who was born and raised in Taiwan, to share his life in Taiwan.

John Peters’ parents are all Swiss and they have immigrated to Taiwan for around 30 years. John was born in Kaohsiung and homeschooled for primary and secondary education. This is therefore he could not demonstrate a high level of proficiency in Mandarin Chinese back then. Till entering senior high school, he was immersed in a Chinese-teaching environment and thus able to improve his Chinese language skills. Alex also praised John’s Chinese speaking skills.

John mentioned that he really loves and highly recommends the movie “Man In Love (當男人戀愛時)” as it shows how Taiwanese young couples interact with each other. Besides, the film was dubbed into Hokkien which features characteristics of local culture.

Besides, John also said that one thing that makes him feel unbearable was some motorbike riders do not wear helmets and he hopes that they can follow traffic rules on the road.

Lastly, John is thankful that he could grow up in Taiwan, and he hopes to obtain Taiwanese nationality in the future and settle down here.
