Recently, meat products containing the African swine fever virus were reported in Taiwan. To protect the pork industry in Taiwan, the National Immigration Agency (NIA) Taoyuan City Service Station promoted safety and prevention tips from the African swine fever to new immigrants through various channels.

Border control and quarantine measures have been implemented to prevent African swine fever from entering Taiwan. Migrant workers, foreign spouses, foreigners, and overseas Chinese must not bring any animal products when entering Taiwan. For the first violation,  fines of NTD200,000 will be imposed in accordance with the Statute for Prevention and Control of Infectious Animal Diseases. The second violation will be fined NTD1 million.

Director of the NIA Taoyuan City Service Station Huang Ying-kuei 黃英貴 stated that the African swine fever is dangerous and spreads very quickly. Huang reminds new immigrants to avoid visiting pig farms and livestock when returning to their home countries.

Those buying imported pork products and bringing them into Taiwan will face maximum imprisonment of 7 years and a maximum fine of NTD 3 million.
