Ministry of Education: NTD5,000 scholarship subsidies for Overseas Chinese and Foreign students

Overseas students come to Taiwan to study and work, however, their income is greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ministry of Education (MOE) accepted donations from the donation scholarship foundation. After preliminary reviews of the applicants, a total of 268 overseas Chinese and foreign students from 69 universities were accepted and will receive a scholarship amount of NTD5,000.

The MOE stated that many universities expressed concern for their overseas Chinese and foreign students especially because of the COVID-19 epidemic. The schools provided the options for installment payment, deferred payment, and even emergency relief funds for those who struggle to pay for tuition and other fees.

Furthermore, the government provides various scholarships for these students, including Taiwan scholarships, scholarships for outstanding overseas Chinese students, and more. Around 1800 students are accepted every year. Based on the annual budget, around 3,000 scholarships can be given to overseas Chinese and foreign students. In line with the New Southbound Policy, the government is taking initiatives to assist families and students from Southeast Asia who struggle financially and those in need of living assistance.
