In spite of the nationwide level 3 alert, the National Immigration Agency (NIA) set new regulations for foreign residence processing, including extension, registration, and resident permit expiry.
The NIA stated that to avoid the risk of infections or unnecessary contact, except for those whose residence periods are about to expire, residence periods will automatically be extended 30 days.

For those applying for residence permits for the first time, issuing a residence visa from Taiwan by the Bureau of Consular Affairs (BOCA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), changing personal information, and other processes in person have been postponed.
These restrictions have been implemented respectively on May 15. In-person processing will continue within 30 days of the implementation of the nationwide level 2 alert.
In addition, for those whose residence permits are about to expire and those who have received permission from the NIA to extend their stay in Taiwan, there is no need to visit the service station. However, they must prepare to apply for an extension at service stations 10 days within the implementation of the nationwide level 2 alert.

To control the inflow of people, the NIA stated that the measures mentioned above will not apply to the following: Those who have violated laws in Taiwan, those restricted from leaving the island for any violations. These subjects are requested to leave Taiwan in accordance with the regulations.
