Touched by propaganda video, migrant workers who have fled for more than 20 years self-report and return to their home country

[Taiwan Immigrants’ Global News Network] National Immigration Agency launched the "Expanded Overstayers Voluntary Departure Program" on February 1st this year. NIA Pingtung County Specialized Corps has distributed propaganda videos and posters through online communities of new immigrants and migrant workers. A few days ago, four migrant workers from Indonesia who had just seen the program's propaganda video and plucked up the courage to self-report to the specialized corps. They were touched by the video and hoped to go home and reunite with their relatives. With the help of the specialized corps, the four finally returned home to reunite with their families.

The four disconnected Indonesian migrant workers' passports, however, are no longer valid because they have been disconnected for a long time. They received assistance from the specialized corps for applying new passports at the Taipei Economic and Trade Office, Jakarta, Indonesia

According to the head of the Pingtung County Specialized Corps(黃仲傑), NIA is promoting “Expanded Overstayers Voluntary Departure Program," asking the public to help spreading the information, and encouraging overstayers to take the initiative to self-report. If caught, one will face high fines, detention, and forced repatriation.

According to the head of the Pingtung County Specialized Corps(黃仲傑) in order to prevent foreigners from overstaying in Taiwan in future, overstaying fines will be increased from NT$2,000 to NT$30,000~NT$150,000. NIA has also set up special hotline: 0800-024-881 for overstayers to inquire. If the public finds any violations, please call the Pingtung County Specialized Corps Reporting Hotline 08-7662250.
