Kazuki Kawamura (河村一樹), a Japanese who has been in Taiwan for more than three years, chose to settle in Taiwan because he has a keen interest in Chinese. He wanted to be an actor in Taiwan to develop his acting career. Kazuki wanted to raise awareness and created the YouTube channel “Yi Ke Shu De Yi Shu” (一棵樹的一樹), sharing the daily life experience in Taiwan and the cultural differences between Taiwan and Japan. His channel has shown daily life in Taiwan, and this enables more Japanese to understand Taiwan more.

In this episode of the "New Immigrants in Taiwan" column, Kazuki visited a Chinese breakfast shop owned by his friend and experienced a day in a life of a breakfast shop staff.

At first, Kazuki first got to know the environment of the breakfast shop and then learned to serve customers, deliver food & drinks, and prepare meals in the kitchen. This was Kazuki’s first time making the Chinese omelette by himself and the results were perfect. The whole process was a meaningful and interesting one.

The soy milk in the shop is freshly blended and made every day. Kazuki also participated in the making process. He washed the soaked soybeans, then added an appropriate proportion of water and blended them together, and then heated and boiled the soy milk. Lastly, filter the residues and the soy milk is ready. “The freshly made soy milk tastes really good,” Kazuki said.

Kazuki mentioned that he never thought being a breakfast shop staff is that exhausting. There are many steps to prepare freshly made soy milk. No wonder the soy milk tastes so delicious.
