Haircut charitable activity helped by new immigrants in Tainan!

‘Tainan Style Look Exchange Association’ (台南市整體造型交流協會) and Changsheng Village in Tainan jointly organized a haircut charitable activity – ‘New Immigrant Hairdressing & Innovation Practice and Community Give Back Service’. Entering its second year, more than 10 male and female hairdressers were dispatched to serve the elderly in the village. From 10 am to 12 am, there were a total of 50 people who attended for the haircut.

Wu Yun Yan (吳澐晏), the Chief of Changsheng Village, states that the haircut charitable activity last and this year is well-liked by the residents in the village. Numerous elders participated in the activity in the Activity Center of Changsheng Village.

Lin Shu Rong (林淑蓉), the secretary-general of the Tainan Style Look Exchange Association’, pointed out that in order to enable new immigrants to gain employability skills, hairdressing classes were created with the funds from the New Immigrant Development Fund. The class is held once a week.

This time, the 20 students are mainly new immigrants from China and Vietnam, and are aged from 21 to 50 years old. It is hoped that new immigrants can learn a skill and start their own business in the future to support their families.

A participant is a 93-year-old grandmother. The family members told the conference that the elderly is unwilling to cut hair because it is troublesome for them to travel. They also expressed their gratitude towards people involved in the charitable activity.

Wu Yun Yan believes that haircut charitable activity is necessary in communities given the aging population. Many elderly participants showed joyful faces because they look much younger after getting a haircut.
