The Yunlin Service Station regularly visits rural areas like Mailiao and Beigang to provide application services, reducing the travel burden for new residents. Cai Xi-xian, a second-generation immigrant and active Coast Guard officer, participated in the event to promote recruitment. He shared his story of joining the Coast Guard after being inspired by a campus campaign during high school. Currently working at an inspection station, Cai utilizes his fluency in Vietnamese, a skill he learned from a young age, to communicate effectively with foreign workers, mostly from Indonesia and Vietnam. His efforts have helped bridge language gaps and increased understanding of the challenges these workers face.
The Coast Guard Administration Will Actively Collaborate with the Immigration Agency to Promote Awareness and Attract More Second-Generation Immigrants with Southeast Asian Language Proficiency
To date, 29 second-generation immigrants have joined the Coast Guard. Their native language skills have facilitated trust-building, investigations, and improved maritime security, making them a vital force for Taiwan's maritime safety. Moving forward, the Coast Guard will collaborate more with the Immigration Agency to attract additional second-generation immigrants with Southeast Asian language proficiency.
Yunlin Service Station Director Huang Zhong-jie expressed gratitude to the Coast Guard for valuing Southeast Asian language talent and emphasized the significant contributions of second-generation immigrants in various fields. The government continues to promote support and guidance programs for new residents and their children to foster multicultural development.
