According to Over 40,000 visitors expected at National Craft Day from March 1-13 | The Star, at this year's National Craft Day (HKK) 2023, which takes place from March 1 to March 13 at the Kuala Lumpur Craft Complex, fans of traditional crafts can satisfy their craving.

This year's HKK, which has the theme "Ini Kraf Malaysia," has exhibits from 380 unique craft businesses and communities, representing numerous cultures from all around Malaysia.

Visitors get access to instructional craft lectures, live craft making demos, and DIY craft making lessons in addition to craft purchasing.

The Malay joget and other traditional dances from the Chinese, Indian, Sabah, and Sarawak cultures will also be performed on occasion to highlight the beauty of some of the event's crafts.

Traditional textile crafts like batik, crafts made of wood like rattan, crafts made of metal like pewter, and other traditional crafts are also displayed.

According to Kraftangan Malaysia director-general Ainu Sham Ramli, the event is anticipated to draw at least 45,000 people and generate about RM14.5 million in sales of handcrafted goods over its 13-day duration.

The event, according to Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, was a component of the government's overall planning for Visit Malaysia 2025 while also enhancing people's quality of life.

Sales of traditional crafts have already increased by 44.1% between 2021 and 2022, and the government expects this rise to continue or even accelerate this year. As a result, the market will offer a wider range of high-quality, reasonably priced craft products to satisfy both local and foreign visitors' preferences, thereby increasing the demand for the craft industry. In his remarks at the formal opening of HKK on March 5th, he predicted that as Malaysian products become more well-known and used, the tourism industry as a whole would benefit.
